Good news for “Reply 1988” fans! The favorite “maknae” is officially out of the woods after beating leukemia for the second time.
On January 19, the actor whose popularity rose after portraying the role of Sung No Eul in the hit drama is confirmed to be part of an upcoming MBC rom-com fantasy series “Showtime Begins!”
The news came out after the announcement from Wide S Company on January 18 that he decided to join their entertainment agency and resume acting again after fully recovering from leukemia in late 2021.
According to the agency, the actor’s first drama after his recent recovery will start filming soon.
“Choi Sung Won will be making a special appearance in the MBC drama ‘Showtime Begins!’. The actor has good fortune with people, so he is receiving a lot of encouragement. We plan to prioritize his health and support [his return to activities] slowly,” the agency stated.
He was first diagnosed with acute leukemia in May 2016 while filming “Mirror of the Witch.” He was completely healed by July 2017 and started working on a stage play called “Miracles of the Namiya General Store.” But in early 2020, the actor confirmed that his cancer recurred.
“Showtime Begins!” features the story of a charming magician and a police officer who possesses supernatural powers. It stars Park Hae Jin as the popular magician and Jin Ki Joo as the hot-blooded police officer with extraordinary abilities. Jung Joon Ho and Jung Suk Yong will also join them in the series.
The upcoming drama is slated to premiere in March 2022.
