The tragic news of a person being sentenced to death, through firing squad, for smuggling the worldwide popular series ‘Squid Game’, has spread all over the globe. The source who shared the tragic event to Radio Free Asia said that this started when the Surveillance Bureau Group 109 received a tip of high school students watching Squid Game.
The Surveillance Bureau Group 109 is responsible for obtaining illegal media and punishing watchers. The high school student who purchased the USB drive was sentenced to life in prison, and the remaining six students received five years of labor. However, there’s a rumor that one of the students was able to avoid punishment as the rich parents bribed the authorities with $3000.
The horrid reality is due to the new North Korean Law passed last year, the “Elimination of Reactionary Thought and Culture.” The RFA reports that watching, possessing, and distributing media from capitalist countries like South Korea and the US are prohibited.
The maximum punishment is death.
Several sources revealed that this is only the beginning. They stated how the drama parallels the drastic state of North Korea. This proves fatal for people who hold paraphernalia, as the SBG currently holds an investigation.
