Social media influencer and contestant from Netflix’s trending reality dating show “Single’s Inferno” Song Ji-ah has been called out for using fake designer goods.
Eagle-eyed fans of the dating reality show made noises in online communities to point out the influencer’s knack for wearing knock-off clothes and jewelry pieces in some of the episodes. Some of the outfits mentioned include the Dior monogram tub top and the Chanel crewneck logo short sleeve that belongs to the Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
The social media star, who also has 1.9 million subscribers on her FreeZia YouTube account, broke her silence about the controversy on Instagram. According to the fashion and makeup guru, some of the accusations about her are “partly true” and apologized for her actions.
“I would like to apologize to the brands who have suffered damage from the issue. I extend my sincere apology to my fans and subscribers as well,” she said. “As a person with a dream of launching my own brand, I’ll reflect deeply on the latest controversy. I’ll have a greater sense of responsibility.”
She also deleted all the posts that showcased fake products on all her social media platforms.
South Korean laws are very strict against selling and importing fake products. There are also laws against possessing such items to be used for duplicating and fabricating registered trademarks. However, consumers who have no idea how to distinguish fake items are not liable for their actions.
Song Ji-ah is one of the 12 singles sent to a deserted island to look for love in Netflix’s popular dating reality show. Aside from “Single’s Inferno,” the YouTuber also finished filming an episode for JTBC’s popular talk show “Knowing Bros” and variety show “Omniscient Interfering View” on MBC. After careful considerations, the producers of both shows chose to air her episodes on Saturday, January 29.
